Revellutions RC Metal Blaster

We’ve spent the past two months playing with this 1:14 scale, professional, feature packed model from Revellutions – The Metal Blaster Monster Truck, an R/C designed to make short work of any terrain you put in front of it. Boy, did we have fun.

Monumental. Striking.

The Metal Blaster arrived, monumental and striking housed in its magnificent box, imprinted with images of what it was capable of. We knew this box was nothing more than its temporary accommodation and the images were images of its potential – this thing was yet to breathe and yet to prove itself. We knew its true home was in the great outdoors and we couldn’t wait to rehouse it.

A brief 60 minutes of charge and the battery pack’s green light gave us the all clear, we transplanted the battery pack back into its underbelly and gave it a quick life check before taking it up the nearest mountain (the Culcaigh mountain range, County Fermanagh).

Ripping Up The Tarmac

Straight onto the tarmacked road she sped off leaving us and a cloud of dust behind her, the generous suspension bounced her chassis making straight lines a challenge, we soon realised that the Metal Blaster wasn’t about straight lines, but rather it was about taking on the terrain put in front of her. It wasn’t long before the road underfoot morphed into a runway of loose rock and stones. The Metal Blaster took to it like a bird to flight. We kept her lit, impressed with its resilience, it didn’t once ask us to stop. We knew the 30 minutes of battery would soon run dry, we swapped the loose rock and stone paved path for a bed of grass, bog and heather. She sang her way passed the heather and stormed on leaving the soft, brown bog beneath her… “if only she could draw turf” I thought.

Complete Control

Like all Revellutions RC models, the Metal Blaster uses 2.4-GHz technology rather than the older 35mhz system. 2.4GHz delivers a better RC experience enabling the RC and the controller to lock on’ to eachother keeping you free from interference from other RCs or ‘noise’ generated by other electrical components. It also uses a fraction of the battery power needed to run 35mhz system, doesn’t require a large aerial, gives a quicker response time…..yada yada!

Race Online

The controller features a tyre-shaped steering wheel and a trigger to control the acceleration. The steering wheel clips in and out and can be easily switched over to satisfy lefties like myself. The controller even doubles as a wireless PC game controller letting you practice your racing skills online while your RC has a rest (or charges).

After two attempts we gave up but came an honorary 2nd place and secured our place on the wall of fame for the 4th best time in the past 30 days. (Using the spacebar to reposition the car on the track reminded me of Big Red Racing if anyone remembers that….whoohoo!).

2nd-place

Our second attempt at the Revellutions game won us an honorable 2nd place
